January 6, 2009 **TONIGHT** Career Exploration Fair . . . sit in an authentic race car, talk and solve cases from real attorneys, meet and work with Rich Brenner from WGHP- Channel 8; work firsthand with medical and engineering instruments and meet the Mayor! Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 4:00 8:00 p.m. in the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. 2008-2009 Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest . . . The Weaver Academy School level competition will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 4:15 pm in the Media Center. Students should be prepared to recite two poems for the school level competition and three poems for the regional level competition. Poem selections can be found at www.poetryoutloud.org or in Ms. Powell’s classroom. Please see Ms. Powell for more information. We will be hosting a Financial Aid Night on Thursday, January 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the theater. A representative from the College Foundation of North Carolina will be here to discuss college financial aid, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Weaver Poet Laureate . . . All Weaver PVA students are eligible to enter the Poet Laureate Contest. Your poems are due Friday, January 9th 2009, they can be turned in to your English teacher or the Media Center. You may pick-up your entry form from Mr. Kammeyer in the Media Center. Weaver Chick-Fil-A Night . . . Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Friendly Center. Voices of Weaver . . . Be a part of “Voices of Weaver” a coffee, poetry, and musical night where students can enjoy fellowship, original poetry, music, and food. This will be held on Thursday January 29, 2009, Weaver Commons at 6:30 p.m. If you plan to read your work, please submit your poetry to Ms. Powell Mobil Unit 1 by January 10th. We are also interested in musicians. Auditions for musical acts will be held on January 10th at 4:15, the location is TBD. Anime Club ~ will meet Tuesday, January 6th from 4:15 5:00 p.m. in Mr. Hughes’ room. We will be working on designs for our t-shirt sale for the next three weeks. Please do not forget to bring in t-shirts with general designs that you like. Also we are asking for donations to help order our first 100 t-shirts. $10-15 is good. If you can give more, please see Rebecca Salazar, the secretary. This is a fundraiser for our trip to Animazement, an Anime convention in Raleigh this spring. Thanks! Chess Club ~ will meet on Thursdays during lunch AND from 4:15 5:00 p.m. All meetings will take place in Mr. Knudsen’s room (202). Conservative Society ~ will be meeting each Tuesday after school at 4:15 p.m. in Mrs. Holly Barefoot’s trailer Environmental Club ~ will meet every Wednesday at 8:30 am in Mrs. Korty's room. The first Wednesday of the month there will be an additional meeting right after school for those who cannot attend morning meetings, or would like to attend in the afternoon. FCA (Fellowship of Christian Artists) ~ will have its next meeting, Friday, January 9th at 8:00 a.m. in Mrs. Holly Barefoot’s room. FCA has a folder on the its bulletin board for questions that students may have about the Bible or God or Christianity. The last Friday of each month these questions will be answered during FCA. Interact Club ~. will meet on Wednesday, January 7th at 8:15 a.m. in the MEDIA CENTER. Please be prompt in your arrival as we will be creating fundraising pages for the Polar Plunge. We do not want to repeat the directions multiple times! Please help us spread the word to other members. Thank you! NHS ~ The National Honor Society will begin regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. These meetings will be held in room M6/1 at 4:05 p.m. OTTO Club ~ meets on Wednesdays from 4:05 4:55 p.m. in the Media Center. Robotics Team ~ is currently meeting in Mrs. Morrissett’s room, 209, on Wednesday afternoons, 4:15 until. New members will be welcomed. S.M.A.R.T. ~ meets every Thursday at 8:30 in Ms. Lisa Barefoot’s mobile unit S.T.A.A.R. (Students Taking Action for Animal Rights) ~ meets on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. in the Media Center. Student Council ~ will begin regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. Student Council meetings will be held in the Café, adjacent to the lower commons, from 4:10 PM to 5:10 PM. Yoga Club ~ will resume meeting after the holidays. We are still seeking input on which day of the week people would like to attend. See Ms. Flint if you have suggestions. Thanks!!
