My name is Briana Manning and I am extremely excited about having the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. I have taught in Guilford County for 5 years. My first 4 years of teaching, I taught at Eastern Guilford High School. My 4th year teaching, I taught at Southern Guilford High School. The 2009-2010 school year is my first year at Weaver Academy! I am anticipating an excellent year. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and my Master’s degree in Mathematics Education at North Carolina A&T State University. I teach various mathematics courses at Weaver including Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Pre Calculus. Please feel free to contact me via email at manninb@gcsnc.com.

Course Descriptions

Algebra 1 • Algebra 1 continues the study of algebraic concepts. It includes operations with polynomials and matrices, creation and application of linear functions and relations, algebraic representations of geometric relationships, and an introduction to nonlinear functions. Students will be expected to describe and translate among graphic, algebraic, numeric, tabular, and verbal representations of relations and use those representations to solve problems.

Syllabus

Honor Pre-Calculus • Pre-Calculus provides students an honors-level study of trigonometry, advanced functions, analytic geometry, and data analysis in preparation for calculus.

Syllabus

Algebra 2 • Algebra 2 continues students’ study of advance algebraic concepts including functions, polynomials, rational expressions, systems of functions and inequalities, and matrices. Students will be expected to describe and translate among graphic, algebraic, numeric, tabular, and verbal representations of relations and use those representations to solve problems.

Syllabus

Geometry • Geometry continues students’ study of geometric concepts building upon middle school topics. Students will move from an inductive approach to deductive methods of proof in their study of two and three dimensional geometric figures. Reasoning skills will be emphasized and students will broaden their use of the coordinate plane.
