Kimberly Osborne Drafting
Mrs. Osborne has been teaching, at Weaver, since March of 2005; she comes from the industry with a background in drafting and design relating to interior and architectural designs. Before teaching, she worked for an architect in Greensboro and a general contractor in High Point; the last 15 years of her career in the industry she has been privileged to design residential structures ranging in price from one hundred-thousand to one million dollars. Mrs. Osborne also designed the Percy H. Sears Applied Technology Center Fountain in 1999 for Guilford Technical Community College at the Jamestown Campus; the presentation drawing for the fountain is displayed in her classroom. In her spare time, she continues to design homes for family and friends; her latest design was for her parents’ new home in McLeansville, NC which was completed in January 2009. She is currently working on house plans for friends in Virginia and designing her personal home which she and her husband plan to start building in 2011. |

| Course Descriptions
Drafting I • This course introduces students to the use of simple and complex graphic tools used to communicate and understand ideas and concepts found in the areas of architecture, manufacturing, engineering, science and mathematics. Topics include business meeting skills and goal setting strategies, classical representation methods such as sketching, geometric construction techniques, CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) orthographic projection, and dimensioning. Skills in communication, mathematics, science, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving are reinforced in this course. Honors Drafting II Architecture emphasis are placed on the application of CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) tools in the creation of floor plans, foundation plans, basic roof design, sections and details, and elevation drawings. Honors Drafting III Architecture emphasis are placed on the application of CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) tools in the creation of site plans, foundation plans, stair detail plans, and interior elevation drawings. Honors Drafting II Engineering topics include team building and communication skills, 3D Modeling, manufacturing processes, dimensioning and conventional tolerances, sectional views, auxiliary views, and pattern development. Honors Drafting III Engineering topics include job seeking and interview skills, the engineering design process, constraint-based/parametric modeling, threads & fasteners, working drawings, basic geometric dimensioning and tolerances, and portfolio development. Skills in communication, mathematics, science, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving and reinforced in this course. |
