Marion "Butch" Osborne Culinary Arts
Before transferring to Weaver Academy, I was an English teacher at the Middle College at GTCC-High Point. Previous to that, I taught Foods and Nutrition for five years at Reidsville Senior High School. I began my teaching career as English and Theatre teacher at Page High School. I hold a B.A. in Performing and Visual Arts / Theatre from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, an M.A.Ed. in English from Wake Forest University, and an A.A.S. in Culinary Technology from Guilford Technical Community College. I earned teacher certification in Family and Consumer Sciences from NC A&T State University and graduate studies in photography and art history at East Tennessee State University. I am also an adjunct instructor for the English Department at GTCC. I grew up in a small coal-mining town in Southwestern Virginia where my family still lives. In my spare time, I operate a piano tuning and repair business. |

| Course Descriptions
Culinary Arts and Hospitality II • Culinary Arts and Hospitality II is a two-credit completer course for students in Public Services / Hospitality and Tourism. This two-block course provides advanced experiences in food production, management, and service. Topics include menu planning, business management, and guest relations. Skills in mathematics, communication, creative thinking, and entrepreneurship are reinforced in this course. Students will use appropriate work-based learning strategies including a school-based enterprise, employability skills development, and a final capstone project. |
